Each Kawai creation is lovingly handmade, from the first bead chosen in Japan to the final touch added under the Byron sun. Here’s how your jewellery comes to life:
1. Sourcing the Beads
Our journey begins each year in a beautiful bead store hidden in the heart of Tokyo, where shelves glisten with thousands of Miyuki Tila glass beads in every colour of the rainbow. We hand-select every shade and finish, choosing those that capture the ocean’s shimmer, the calm of sunrise, and the joy of colour.
2. Designing the Palette
Back in Byron Bay, we lay out the beads like tiny brushstrokes — blending tones inspired by beaches, coral reefs, sunsets, and tropical gardens. Each design is meant to evoke a feeling and positive personality trait.
3. Hand-Weaving With Care
Every piece is individually handwoven using precision techniques that honour Japanese craftsmanship. We use strong, durable elastic to ensure flexibility and comfort while maintaining the delicate look of glass beadwork.
4. Quality & Waterproof Testing
Before a design joins our collection, it’s worn, tested, and loved — in the ocean, under the sun, and through everyday adventures. Only pieces that stand the test of beach days and salty swims become part of the Kawai family.
5. Packed With Love
